Guerlain Spa, 2012

Waldorf Astoria

We placed particular emphasis on the guest’s “journey” while designing the Guerlain SPA. The guest enters the SPA through the smoked glass door and is immersed in a world of warm natural stone, silver and beige tones, walnut wood and glittering crystals.

The routes diverge after reception. Sporty guests take the path to the pool with sauna and whirlpool or fitness room. Guests in search of rest and relaxation enter the separate SPA area and first take a seat on the specially designed footbath furniture, where they discard the stress of everyday life and are prepared for hours of relaxation. Treatments take place in spacious suites with private bathrooms. The exquisite fragrances of the Parisian Guerlain perfume house take treatment as their theme. Water treatments such as Vichy and massage baths are also available.

The Guerlain SPA was nominated for the “sleeper award” and has won the “Best City SPA” audience award several times.

The pool, with its unusual shape, is lined with a specially designed glass mosaic. The whirlpool was also specially designed by us for the SPA. A Finnish sauna and a steam bath made of black glass mosaic, through which hundreds of glass fibre strands are laid, form another separate area. Fitness seekers can stay healthy on state-of-the-art equipment while looking down on the new Kranzlereck.

A spiral staircase covered with a glass mosaic leads to the spacious roof terrace, which is also used as a bar in summer.

Unusual materials such as wallpaper made of silver-plated crystals and small glass balls, textile wall coverings and high-gloss furniture define the exclusivity of the rooms. Some luminaires were designed together with the Dutch artist Brand van Egmond. Open-pored travertine, limed oak and walnut were used on the walls and furniture specially designed for this project.
